WATOTO BABIES’ HOME, NAKASERO (BULRUSHES)

Watoto Babies’ Home, the Bulrushes, is located in Nakasero, Kampala and is providing quality care to orphaned and vulnerable children between 0-2 years old. When the babies turn 2 years old they graduate to one of the Homes in the children’s Villages
joining 7 other children who become siblings for life under the care of a housemother.

Bulrushes is currently taking care of 68 babies, some of whom are HIV+, and 4 premature babies undergoing intensive care. 68 nannies are employed to ensure all round care with the help of 7 regular local volunteers, and 14 international volunteers. Watoto is building two babies’ homes in Suubi and Gulu to create more capacity for the vulnerable babies in Uganda. These homes will be ready for occupation by mid 2010.

The building at the Bulrushes had a roof leakage problem and whenever it rained, water would enter the building and wet the rooms. Corrective measures were imperative and because of generous funding from Debbie Bolton and Norwex Enviro Products Inc., the roof repairs were successfully undertaken and are near completion.

Thank you for selflessly partnering with Watoto in our vision to rescue, and raise future leaders of Uganda. May God richly bless you.
